Bunnies and Turkey

It is Easter, everything is closed on Good Friday and mostly everything on Sunday. Not in the states...Thanksgiving is a bigger deal in the States than Easter is. It is really odd to me. How did the turkey out weigh in importance than the bunny?

What's with the beer?

Canadians are known for drinking beer. Not all Canadians drink beer. Where my husband grew up, as a teen, Canada was known for beer and beautiful women. Now he has me a beautiful beer drinking Canadian woman...(I tried to keep a straight face with that one)

I am guessing that it was Bob & Doug that really gave us the rep for beer drinking, wearing touques and playing hockey..all year round.

Our beer is stronger than it is down here, and we enjoy a drink at the local pub. Where here they go for a beer at the tavern just to drink.

The Canadians are coming!

Just before a holiday, the parking lots at Walmart and the grovery store will be full of Canadian license plates. You will not be able to get near the turkey or ham without protective gear. The lines at the border will be insane. The little chocolate bunnies will be piled high and taken from their country.
I am wondering what kind of savings really occur or is it that you can't get cheese product in a spray can over there?

No health care reform?

I was out the other night and someone asks me "You are from Canada, what do you think of the health care?"

Huh?!

I have never had to think much about health care...ever. In the states, it is all over the news, it is a big thing. And I am trying to get the information and I am trying to care about health care.

I have never really been into politics, but here you are surrounded.

So about 'The health care reform' I am not sure, I think both systems need a lot of work, it needs to be looked at very carefully.

But then again what the heck do I know...really. I never saw a problem with health care in Canda until the more recent years when it became almost impossible to get a family doctor. It was tough being a military family and moving all the time.

Doctor or no Doctor?

You have to pay, like with money, like they send you a bill! I have always hated going to the doctor for any reason. Usually when you have to go, you make sure you have your card with you, this is the magic card, it gets you in and then you go home. You have to figure out how to pay for the meds but that is it. Sometimes they will throw a fee in for writing a letter, like one you need to take a day off work.

This is the system I am used to, it got worse as the years went on, if you moved, you were screwed, it is very hard to find a family doctor that is taking new patients. You usually end up in the waiting room at the clinic for hours. The care is not the same either.

In the States the wait is minimal, and they will get you any test you want....but you pay for it. Yes there is a bill. I am not sure how it works still, very confusing on what is covered, how much you pay monthly all that stuff.

All I know is... just the thought of going to the doctor for any reason and then actually knowing what it costs me freaks me out. I don't want to know how much my time and their time cost.

I have no clue who your Aunt is that moved to Canada

It does not matter where I go here, there is one thing I hear when people find out I am Canadian
"Where in Canada are you from? My aunt married a Canadian"
Everyone knows a Canadian or is related to someone in Canada, or someone they know married a Canadian and so on.
I walked into the flower shop...Where in Canada? My sister married a Canadian, she moved over there, are you close to there?

Granted we are close to the border, when it was easy, there were Canadians and Americans border hopping for romance all the time. Everyone over here is related to some Canadian and same on the Canadian side. The only difference between us is the side of the border we live on.

The joke with my husband is that when we see a Canadian Licence plate..."Do you know them?" he asks every time.

There are over 31,612,897 people in Canada spread out across 9 970 610 km²
granted compared to the US where there are 307,212,123 people that are crammed into 9,826,675 sq km

So the answer, I have no clue who your  Canadian family are just because they moved there. I do not know every Canadian.

I am going to have to carry cheat sheets

Went to the video store, only been a member there a couple of months and I usually use cash to rent a movie. Went in with the kids and we decided to get more movies than our original plan, so did not have enough cash on hand.

Me to girl behind counter: "Do you take interect?
Girl behind counter: I am not sure.
Me: dumb look on my face, what the heck does she mean she is not sure.
Girl: I think it only takes debit ....check card
Me; That is what I meant
Girl: You new here?

To this planet I think I am new here...Toto! I have a feeling we're not in Canada anymore!

Ok...same thing to me, but not here....interect is Canada only or debit , ATM, but here....

It is debit check card and maybe some other things that I have not paid attention too. Have to make some notes on this, starting to stand out.
